Scott Pilgrim Series - Bryan Lee O'Malley

Scott Pilgrim Series, is a set of Six novels, each one depicting Scott Pilgrim and his friends and his journey to conquer his new girlfriend Ramona's Seven Evil Ex's.  Scott is a 23 year old, he has no job, he lives with his Gay flatmate, and he plays in a band Sex Bob-omb.  We follow his life whilst he's defeating these ex's and we get to meet all his friends and even some of their friends in this humorous comic.

Read - Recommendation that they were good, and was shown one of them in the library where i work. I found it quite funny (the opening few pages) so i took the series home to read.

I am reviewing these as a series as their is no point in reviewing each comic. They dont take long to read and because they are a series that follow on from one another they can be lumped together under the same review. I was dreadfully put off by the film trailers as that is how i first heard about the Scott Pilgrim story (Scott Pilgrim VS the world), however am glad they were recommended as they were the type of comic i was looking for.  I have been trying to get into Manga comics and other types of comics but yet to find one i liked. This one is drawn for the humours content and makes it a very good comic to read.

I loved the humour in this series, the comics are very witty and very down to earth. The story follows a 23 year old, unemployed slacker who is into being in a band and playing video games (how very stereotypical) however this story makes it easy to follow and easy to like.  Using very familiar references to old games such as street fighter, using phrases when he fights as K.O and KNOCKOUT.  Also with various references to different comics.  This added to the humour made them a great comic to read.

The mix of almost realistic story lines, video game fighting, video game references and comic references made this a very clever comic to read.  It also made you laugh with the uses of typical gaming or comic slogans and interactions.  It also made it very familiar comic to read and very hard to put down.  I loved this series, and if you are interested in Comics, gaming then this is a very good set of books to get into (and they don't take that long to finish).
