March 1943, the war hangs in the balance. Jericho is sent for to crack the code from the German U Boats using the Enigma machine. A task he has done before but was sent on leave due to a break down. However he is the only one who can potentially crack the code. He returns to Bletchley Park, and discovers a new mystery on his doorstep, his former girlfriend has gone missing and their may be a spy inside Bletchley.
Borrowed from a friend. (After becoming interested in this topic recently).
I think for this novel you need a small understanding of the Enigma machines during the war. However Robert Harris does explain whats going on quite nicely. This is a fictional book using historical references and i feel that Harris does well, you can almost imagine this is what it might have been like during the war, and u can really get a feel for this time period. Its a great little story and has a plot to keep you interested.
Its not my usual genre of books, and if i wasn't interested in the topic he portrays i probably wouldn't read it. I think their is one more Robert Harris i want to read, before i make a conclusive decision about the author. If you are interested in either the Enigma machine, or like a good war story then read this book. If your not interested in crime thrillers then it probably wont be for you.
