Frank Chalk, talks frankly about being a Teacher in a Modern comprehensive school which has a reputation for not being the best school in the area. He tells us true stories of troublesome teenagers, and the perils and pitfalls of modern day education. Also all the red tape and the rules and regulations teachers now have to follow.
Why Read - It was one of those books that looked interesting to dip in and out of.
This was a great book to read over time, i had it stored as an ebook and could just dip in and out at will. Each chapter was its own little story and you could easily read it over a few months without getting lost. It shows a very real and frank stories from what its like working in a school, and how bad the education system can be. The fact that the discipline is really bad in this particular school, but the teachers cant punish the children because of all the red tape they face.
Frank gives a very honest opinion and he is very witty. I was laughing out loud to most of the stories within this book. As a supply teacher he sees some of the worst behaviour both from the students and how bad the cover work is left for him to provide for them. Whats more shocking is the level of which these children are at, and the lack of discipline they have.
Its such a wonderful book, as it is all very believable this is how the school system is, especially in the type of school this is set. It reminds me of the In Stitches book i previously read about the state of the NHS. I think its a great book to read.
