Un Lun Dun - China Mieville

Zanna and Deeba notice something strange is amiss on the streets of London, and after investigating they find a secret entrance to another world.  Here all the lost and broken things of london end up, and some of the people too.  But when they arrive they realise that Un Lun Dun is at war, theirs a dangerous smog, words are alive, theirs a jungle in one of the houses and the giraffes are carnivorous.  Maybe their is a reason they were enticed to Un Lun Dun, and maybe they are the only ones who can save it.

Why read - Recommendation from a few different people so i borrowed it from my library

Imagine Terry Pratchet with a hint of teen fiction, and a dollop of China's own unique twist and you get this wonderful novel that is just as good for adults as it is for teenagers.  He has that beautiful play on words that fit in very well with the story. I love the Binja's (ninja bins) and the sombies (smog zombies).  Its a fantastical book with a great imagination, lots of twists and turns and a brilliant sense of humour.

I loved this book, as did Mark who read it before me. Its very enticing, brilliant written, engaging and funny.  Nothing is expected as it just about becomes predictable Mievelle adds another delightful twist to the story.

Brilliant book, one of my must reads and recommendations.
