The Eyre Affair – Jasper Fforde

There is another 1985, somewhere in the could-have-been, where the Crimean war still rages, dodos are regenerated in home-cloning kits and everyone is deeply disappointed by the ending of 'Jane Eyre'. In this world there are no jet-liners or computers, but there are policemen who can travel across time, a Welsh republic, a great interest in all things literary - and a woman called Thursday Next.

Having read previous Jasper Fforde novels this wasnt his best. Maybe because it was his first of the 'Thursday Next' series it felt like it may have taking him a little while to get into the swing of things. I just found this a little bland and boring. The characters were a bit wishy washy and could not really relate to any of them, several to me just blurring into one.

I like his play on words but this one just was not funny or clever enough for me. It was almost an amateur attempt at play on words and he didn't really get it.  I just couldn't get into it and found it rather boring to read.  Their are much better Fforde books out their.
