Perfect People - Peter James

John and Naomi Klaesson are grieving the death of their four- year-old son from a rare genetic disorder. They desperately want another child, but when they find out they are both carriers of a rogue gene, they realize the odds of their next child contracting the same disease are high. Then they hear about geneticist, Doctor Leo Dettore. He has methods that can spare them the heartache of ever losing another child to any disease - even if his methods are more than they can afford. At his clinic is where their nightmare begins. They should have realized something was wrong when they saw the list. Choices of eye colour, hair, sporting abilities. They can literally design their child. Now it's too late to turn back. Naomi is pregnant, and already something is badly wrong ...

This is not the sort of novel I would normally read but was advised to read it from my book club.  Its starts off as one genre but the more you get into it, the more it develops into a totally different book.  I couldn't put this down, but i can't say i really enjoyed all of it. The story was gripping and James writing style was good.  But as the story developed i did find myself thinking it was very far fetched and slightly over the top.

I was gripped by the twins (slightly scared in places because of them) but this did add a nice drama to the book. What i did like was that this book was nothing as i expected and the blurb on the back gave nothing to indicate what this book was going to turn out like. Not knowing the author before reading I think helped because i wasn't sure where the book was going.

It didn't take me long to get through this novel and i did enjoy it all the way through.  Its another gripping book to curl up under your duvet too, and I wanted to know what was coming next.
