If I Stay - Gayle Forman

Everybody has to make choices. Some might break you. For seventeen-year-old Mia, surrounded by a wonderful family, friends and a gorgeous boyfriend decisions might seem tough, but they're all about a future full of music and love, a future that's brimming with hope. But life can change in an instant. A cold February morning ...a snowy road ...and suddenly all of Mia's choices are gone. Except one. As alone as she'll ever be, Mia must make the most difficult choice of all. Gripping, heartrending and ultimately life-affirming, "If I Stay" will make you appreciate all that you have, all that you've lost - and all that might be.
I read this book without knowing what it would be about, and if your doing the same I would not continue with this review as their may be a few spoilers involved.

This is the story of a girl who is involved in a car crash and her life dramatically changes. We see it from the perspective of her 'ghost' and how her life rapidly changes within the next 24 hours and the decisions and thought process she goes through.  This sounds like a bizarre concept and if i knew this i may not have read the book, however i was unable to put this book down and was gripped from page one.

It has similar reflections and ideas as the Lovely Bones, and you wonder if it can stand alone from that book and not make the reader draw comparison. This book defiantly achieved that, although taking a similar perspective on life it had its own views, concepts and ideas.  It was a gripping story where the writer takes you on a journey.  Its thought provoking in the sense of what would happen if your life changes in an instant, and everything you once had changes dramatically.

This is one of those books that you hear little of - (I got it free from a friend who gave it to me without reading it) but i have never seen this book out and about and it doesn't lend itself to big publicity stunts.  IT should though its a great find, and a hidden gem in the book world.  I would be recommending this to my friends.
